How to create an assessment

Create your account

  1. Sign in with Google.
  2. Give us permission to export to your Google drive. We will only ask you for access to the files that we create.
  3. Fill out a brief form to register your ClassGenius account.

Tell us what you'd like to do

  1. Select the tool you'd like to use.  In this case, select the "I have a text or list of terms ready to go".
  2. When ready, click the orange forward arrow to proceed to the next step.

Specify your criteria

  1. Choose a language from a wide range of choices-- from English to Spanish, French, Mandarin, Dutch, and many more.
  2. Select a grade level. We support grades 5-12.
  3. Choose the type of assessment you'd like to create. Open book assessments assume that students have access to the text and focus primarily on comprehension. Closed book assessments assume that students don't have access to the text and focus on a combination of comprehension and content retention.
  4. Specify the content you are uploading. You have the choice between uploading a non-fiction text (e.g. textbook chapter, primary source), a fictional text (e.g. reading passage, book chapter, poem), or a list of terms (e.g. lesson plan, syllabus, terms, notes)
  5. Upload your content.
  6. Add an attribution for your uploaded content. This is optional but if you specify a source, we will include it in your exported quiz.
  7. Select a difficulty level. We meet the needs of ALL your students, ranging from those who are struggling to those ready for an extra challenge. We support different difficulty levels within each grade.
  8. When ready, click the orange forward arrow to proceed to the next step.

Review your questions

  1. Edit a question. Don't like the phrasing of a question or an answer option? click the edit icon in the top right corner of the question. Make your edits and click "Update".
  2. Exclude a question. See a question you don't want to use for your quiz? Unselect the checkbox next to the question. This question will not be exported.
  3. Generate more questions. Want to create additional questions? Click "Generate more questions" at the bottom of the page. Your current questions will be saved.
  4. Tell us how we are doing. We always love to hear from you! Click the comments icon in the bottom right corner of each question to give us feedback. Or drop us a line in the feedback box at the bottom. Your feedback helps the AI learn, so the product gets better for everyone.
  5. Export your quiz. When you are happy with your quiz, click the "Export" button at the bottom of the page to proceed to the next step.

Export to the tool of your choice

  1. Select the tool you'd like to export too. At this time, we support Google Docs and Google Forms.
  2. This will export your assessment in a ready-to-use format, along with the answer key.
  3. Your exported file will pop up in a new tab. You will not lose your work and can always come back to your saved assessment in ClassGenius.
